Hey y'all,
Hopefully someone can help me. I'm about at my breaking point. When I shut down my computer last night, I had a bunch of emails in my outlook express inbox. I get up this morning, they are gone. I've googled this and get things like make sure you are on the correct identity and such, and I am. I've done the no brainers, like search all folders. They are gone.
So that's problem one.
Next, I'm trying to install windows live messenger, 8.5 so that I don't have to do the forced upgrade crap. It has me accept the terms and then brings up a window saying please wait a moment while we prepare for installation. Then the window goes away, and nothing happens from there.
Problem 3 I've tried to install direct x, with no luck. I've again googled, followed the million steps that microsoft says to do, no luck. i get an error about cryptographic stuff. I'll have to try to install again to get the exact error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm ready to throw this thing through a window and go back to simple life before computers were around.
Oh, and I'm not totally computer stupid either. So it isn't just the user is a moron.

Is the view for your inbox set to display only unread messages? The appropriate options are under the Arrange By submenu under the View menu on Outlook; I'm sure there exists something similar (if not an equivalent) in OE.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

for your installition problems do you have UAC still turned on? If so you may have to right click on what you are installing and click on run as administraitor. This is providing you are using vista of course.

On the messenger issue you'll have to upgrade period to the latest. Even if you do get 8.5 installed it won't work soon, or maybe not at all now. Secondly. Outlook Express is not pulling MSN, Windows Live mail anymore. You'll need to change to Live email, or Outlook, or some other email client, so that may be why your email went piff. You can look on the server www.hotmail.com if you are using MSN Livemail, or other that is MSN related. Sign in with your email address and password. It's time the change I suppose. Smile.

Peace.
